NAZRIAH SHAIK ALAWDIN

Nazriah specialises in (i) complex real estate transactions, namely project developments through acquisition of assets, acquisition of shares, joint ventures and incorporation of special purpose vehicles; (ii) concession agreements; and (iii) government privatisation, all of substantial value and involving private entities, listed companies as well as government linked corporations (GLC), both locally and abroad. As head of the Banking Department, she has extensive experience in handling documentation in respect of conventional and Islamic facilities including offshore financing, financing of port operations and overseas investments and acquisitions. She also frequently advises and negotiates agreements for multinational companies involving their investment in Malaysia relating to acquisition of assets, vendor management, manufacturing agreements and related processes in the Free Trade Zones, Industrial Parks and High Tech Parks in Malaysia.

NOTABLE MATTERS HANDLED
• Appointed to act for the private entity awarded with the concession for the cable car project in Penang
• Advised and represented 2 (two) International Oil Companies for the operation of their petrol stations in the Northern Region of Malaysia
• Advised and represented private and Labuan offshore companies in their commercial investment in Indonesia, England, Japan and Australia and represented both local and offshore financial institutions in relation to the financing of such transactions
• Advised and represented a private entity relating to their acquisition of palm oil plantation in Indonesia
Instrumental in completing the task of tracing and registering the and leases in Penang for a government linked telco company pursuant to its corporatisation
• Advised and represented a leading developer in the Special Commission of Enquiry investigating the landslide tragedy at their work site in Tanjung Bunga, Penang
• Instrumental in facilitating a local bank to be listed as a Chargee under the Kelantan Malay Reservation Enactment
• Advised and negotiated the concession agreement for the proposed Penang Outer Ring Road
• Advised and negotiated related agreements for clients involving their investment in hotel and branded residences development with the Marriott Group and the Ascott Group
• Advised and negotiated agreements for acquisition of reclamation land and their development alongside the Kelantan River, the Gurney Foreshore Land in Penang and the coast of Mukim Klebang in Melaka
• Acted for several entities to obtain their tax exemption status under Section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967
