NAZRIAH SHAIK ALAWDIN
Nazriah graduated with Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Malaya in 1994 and was called to the Malaysian Bar on February 1995.
Nazriah has acted for various banks including Labuan offshore banks in the preparation of legal documentation of both conventional and Islamic financing. The type of Islamic financing that Nazriah has been involved in are Al-Bai Bithaman Ajil, Al-Istisna’, Al-Murabahah, Al-Mudharabah, Musyarakah Mutanaqisah, Al-Ijarah, Kafalah and Tawarruq where the financing amount exceeds RM50 Million and has considerable experience in preparing documentation for Islamic private debt securities.
She has also assisted various foreign banks in facilitating their dealings with the land office pursuant to their local incorporation, assisted other banks in facilitating their dealings with the land office pursuant to their merger or change of name and even the enlisting of a commercial bank in the Kelantan’s Malay Reservation Enactment. She was also involved in the tracing and registering the land leases in Penang for Telekom Malaysia Berhad pursuant to its corporatization.
She also specializes on real estate development including in Kelantan, such as acquisition of development of land through purchase, joint venture or government privatization, advising developers on the legal aspects of property development, financing documentation of property development.
She also has extensive experience in negotiating and drafting privatisation agreements for infrastructure project as well as reclamation projects and agreements for multinational companies involving their investment in Malaysia as well as for other private and Labuan offshore companies involving their investment in Indonesia, England and Japan.
She also has experience in shipping matters and shipping financing.
Nazriah has also been appointed as an independent non-executive director of a public listed company as well as a trustee for a notable foundation. She has served on and chaired the sub-committees of the Penang Bar and the Bar Council and has been appointed as a member of the Property Development, Construction & Management Committee of the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
